The Government’s Statement of Intent for Sports Grant Funding

Playing sport helps to keep people healthy and is good for communities. Playing sport at school or in a local club is also the first step to competing at the highest level, which helps improve our reputation as a sporting nation, and contributes to economic growth.
But when people leave school they often stop playing sports, which means people cannot fulfill their sporting potential, and can lead to a less healthy lifestyle. We want to get more people playing sport safely from a young age, and help them keep playing sport throughout their life, no matter what their economic or social background.

Physical Education at Belchamp St Paul C of E Primary School aims to support our vision of allowing our children to explore, dream and discover. With a growth mindset developed from the start, our children build on our Christian values of Hope, Courage, Respect, Wisdom and Compassion through sport and outdoor adventurous activities.

P.E. at our school

  • is fun
  • focusses on fitness and
  • encompasses as range of skills and activities.

We offer P.E. as part of the National Curriculum, but also enrich the P.E. offer with Outdoor Adventurous Activities in order to develop a growth mindset in our children and increase confidence and motivation in relation to all sports. We weave our school values of Courage, Compassion, Wisdom, Hope and Respect through the P.E. curriculum by encouraging teamwork, individual resilience and healthy competitive approach. Forest Schools takes place weekly, to further develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as promote an understanding of the wider world of nature all around us. The Forest School provision is delivered by our in-house Level 3 qualified practitioner, who is also a qualified Humanities teacher and is constantly ensuring the wider curriculum is reflected and reinforced through varied and interesting outdoor learning opportunities.  Children have access to a range of high-quality equipment, including den-building materials, cooking facilities and carving tools.
